Is Fibrowatt Interested in Georgia?
As you can see on our website, Fibrowatt has an interest in developing projects in a number of states, including Georgia. Interest in Georgia should not be a surprise as Georgia is the largest agricultural producer of broiler chickens in the U.S., with an annual value of greater than $4 billion. Poultry production is the largest segment of the Georgia agricultural economy by far.
While Fibrowatt has long been interested in Georgia, to develop a project in a particular area requires that a number of key factors fall in place – mainly the interest in power companies to purchase the renewable energy generated from such a plant, the interest of area growers in such a solution, and of course the interest of a local community to host such a plant.
Based on the importance of poultry to the Georgia economy, specifically in northeast Georgia, we are not surprised that, over time, communities in this region have come to Fibrowatt and asked the company to consider their area for the development of a plant. On this basis and as a result of the growing importance of renewable energy resources throughout the U.S. we have recently begun to look a little closer at the interest these Georgia communities have expressed in a Fibrowatt project.
Over the past year, Fibrowatt has spent time evaluating opportunities in Georgia, looking closer at interested communities, and getting a better understanding of how a Fibrowatt project could benefit the various stakeholders. While we feel Georgia can ultimately be a good location for a Fibrowatt plant, it is still early in the process and we are still doing basic due diligence activities at this time. Before any significant development efforts were to proceed, including formal community outreach activities like we have done in the past, (link opens as pdf) there still are a number of key areas to evaluate.
