Online Resources – The Good, The Bad, The Truth
As we all know, online resources can be a great way to get information. Get on the ‘net and you have a freeway to a load of information. Sometimes when I’m looking for something I go online and look at product reviews. I find one – but there is one problem – the product review is extremely old, too old to call it reliable. The question that has to be asked is how accurate the information I’m looking at is?
For instance, if I wrote all over the internet that I was a millionaire, you’d possibly believe it. I would love to be, but unless that daily scratch off has a big surprise for me, I’m absolutely nowhere near being a millionaire – despite what had been said and what you may believe. The point is don’t believe everything you read online.
Have you ever “Googled” Fibrowatt? I have. If you have, I am pretty sure you found the same things that I’ve found. When you “Google” Fibrowatt, you find a ton of information. Some of it’s good – some of it’s bad. But what is the truth?
Of the many websites and information that does come up, there is one called FibroWatch. See for yourself – read it – seems like pretty scary stuff!
Well now, let’s look a little closer. How accurate is that information? First off, how come they don’t know that we are not a British owned corporation, that our headquarters are in Pennsylvania? That’s a pretty basic fact. How come they haven’t checked the records for our permit compliance? Sure we had a few issues at start up, but we are in FULL compliance with our permit in Minnesota and have been since these start-up challenges. Not to mention we addressed those issues and never denied them. The public has a right to know, and as soon as we were through the legal process with the MPCA, we publicly addressed the situation.
Looking at the Fibrowatch site, I don’t even know where to begin correcting their so-called facts and figures. Fact is we were never kicked out of Page County, VA, we were invited to meet with them, gave a presentation, but the community wanted a different type of industry. That’s all folks. And although Fibrowatt built the UK Power Plants, we no longer own them or operate them. The fact is that much of the information on this page is just plain wrong. It’s a shame that nowadays people can post inaccurate information on just about anything on the internet, information that will needlessly scare people or just bring people down – and somehow this is treated as “fact.”
Obviously there is some merit to reading all this information on Fibrowatt on the internet, but to be objective it requires taking the time and learning about a Fibrowatt project from people who have been there and who live near it – that is where you will find the truth. It’s the people of the local community who can tell you about these plants, not people who have never seen it.
Before you decide if you can support a Fibrowatt Project, people should talk to ordinary people in Benson, Minnesota. Call the Plant, call the Mayor, call the Town Clerk, call the editor of the local paper, call the local bakery, call members of the School Board or talk to the people at the supermarket. It’s the easiest way to find out some honest – straight-forward information about the track record of Fibrowatt as a neighbor. Don’t take my word for it. Listen to the local people; the people of the community in which there is a Plant.
